James della volpe

James Della Volpe (1956-2004)

is an East End artist who got his BFA at Southampton College.

James studied with Howard Kanovitz, a prominent abstract expressionist artist in NY, and Larry Rivers, a figurative artist heavy into the pop culture of the sixties. He also studied with Robert Mumford, a pioneer of pop art and a founding member of Grupo Ibiza 59.

Volpe, like many artists who came to the East End, was captivated by the light and robust community of artists and the arts. His studio was in Southampton where he worked and made a living as a painter. He taught oil painting at the Parrish Art Museum from 1987 - 1989.

Several notable collections in the New York art scene house works by James Della Volpe. He exhibited in many prominent Hamptons galleries in the past, and now Keyes Art.
